Captain’s position on margin and cost exposure. The Captain observes that the model provider (Anthropic) is likely being costed into the current API pricing model at a loss, subsidised by venture capital, and the people who know this probably read HN. The Captain does not want this project to cost other people money. This is not a commercial margin decision; it is an ethical position on operating within a subsidised ecosystem. It constrains all future pricing work: the project should not extract value from someone else’s subsidy.
