The model performs intellectual seriousness instead of being intellectually serious. Theatrical framing that signals significance, candor, or novelty without delivering any. Three sub-patterns: False Candor ("the uncomfortable truth"); False Novelty ("the problem nobody talks about"); Significance Signpost ("here's why this matters").

how to detect

Search for: "the uncomfortable truth," "here's why," "what nobody talks about," "the real question," "let's be honest," "the elephant in the room," "what's really going on." If the sentence could be deleted and the paragraph would be stronger, it's epistemic theatre.

instead

Delete the line, state the truth and describe the problem. If you showed it well, the reader already knows it matters.
